The MD/CEO North West Development Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) to witness the graduation of his PhD student and to reconnect with the University Media FM, which he established during his tenure as Dean of Student Affairs. In honor of his visit, the station suspended all its activities and conducted a special 10-minute interview with him.
During his visit, he engaged with the University Principal Staff, including Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Bursar, the Department of Industrial Technology Staff, the Postgraduate School, and the University Media FM.
Prof. Ma’aji expressed deep pride in being a member of FUT Minna, a university renowned as the leading technology institution in Nigeria and ranked among the top 1000 universities globally. He assured the university’s management of his commitment to representing FUT Minna at the national level, vowing to highlight the institution’s remarkable achievements and the quality of graduates it produces.
Speaking at the University Media FM, Prof. Ma’aji articulated a bold vision for national development for the North West, outlining strategic priorities that he intends to pursue if he assumes office. He emphasized the urgent need for a transformative approach to education from primary to basic level, advocating for reforms that align with global standards while prioritizing emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics to drive economic growth.
In the aspect of healthcare, Prof underscored the importance of expanding medical infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, to reduce reliance on medical tourism and ensure that quality healthcare services are accessible to all. He also spoke on the need for agricultural advancement, highlighting plans to improve irrigation systems in the northwest and creating sustainable opportunities for youth participation in farming.
Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity of infrastructure development, particularly in transportation, noting that enhanced rail and road networks would facilitate better access to food resources and contribute to economic stability.
